David was also one of ten actors who have played The Doctor who recorded a message thanking front-line staff for their work during the coronavirus crisis. It was broadcast just before the weekly Clap For Carers at 8pm. The actors are Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann, David Tennant, Matt Smith Peter Capaldi, Jodie Whittaker and Jo Martin.

The Big Night In was broadcast from 7pm to 10pm that evening to raise awareness and money for BBC Children In Need and Comic Relief. However the organisers say that 'Donations are welcome but this is not a charity event to try to raise loads of money. This is to support people, to try to raise awareness.'

David played the Scottish teacher who was teaching English to Catherine Tate's delinquent character Lauren in a sketch for Comic Relief in 2007.

In the sketch this year Catherine Tate played her schoolgirl role who was struggling with home education and David Tennant played her teacher who was struggling to teach her remotely.
