On Tuesday 1st September Illuminations posted on Twitter "Grade started this morning, with DOP Chris Seager refining the images, adjusting the colours - six-day process, finishing Sat". Updated 1/9
Illuminations have also said that there will be no public screenings until it is broadcast on BBC2 and they now expect that to be sometime during the week before Christmas and New Year.
According to Illuminations during the weekend of 22nd / 23rd August composer Paul Englishby and a 15 piece band recorded his original music which was mixed the following day. Starting Monday 24th August there is "further sound preparation" on the filming.
Illuminations posted that on Friday 7th August Hamlet was "picture locked". The expected completion date is the third week of September."
PlayBill.com have an article about Hamlet in which Gregory Doran says "Contrary to press reports at the time, the RSC always had plans to make a recording of this production but had the inevitable long journey in getting the cast together again and securing funding for this project."
On Sunday 2nd August John Wyver from Illuminations posted online here that "We've had back the notes from our co-producers and we've been refining the cut even further. Tomorrow we start the final week of what's called the 'off-line' edit and with luck we'll reach 'picture lock' on Friday. After which we enter the last six weeks or so of final post-production, including the grading, sound mixing and graphics. Everything seems to be on schedule for the moment."
The DVD (with extras) will be released the day after transmission in the UK.
Hamlet will also be screened in both the US and Japan soon afterwards. In the US it will be screened on the PBS show Great Performances according to an announcement at the PBS panel at TCA on Sunday 2nd August.
Hamlet will be screened on BBC in the UK. A date has not been decided yet but it is more likely to be in December rather than October. At the RSC Open Day on 19th July, one of the producers there said that they currently hope to screen it on Christmas Day on BBC2 immediately after Doctor Who is screened on BBC1 but it's too early to know for sure.
Hamlet is currently in post-production which will take until at least October.
David Tennant and all the RSC cast of Hamlet filmed the play during June on location in Mill Hill, London. The production company Illuminations kept a very detailed Blog during filming here.
