David Tennant - Glorious 39

In November 2008 David Tennant filmed a part in the Stephen Poliakoff film Glorious 39. The film is set in 1939 as war looms over Europe. Although not a large role in the film it is a character that is vital to the plot and David spent several days filming the part both while he was still playing Hamlet in Stratford and during the following week.
David Tennant plays Hector, a family friend.
The film was premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and then at the London Film Festival in October 2009. David attended the London premiere.
Glorious 39 opened in London on 20th November 2009 and around the country on 27th November.
Glorious 39 was released on DVD in the UK on 29th March 2010.

FemaleFirst has a review and a photo of the cover of the Glorious 39 DVD which is relaesed on 8th March. They give it four out of five stars and it has a photo of David Tennant on the cover of the DVD. Updated 10/2

An article in The Guardian stated that Glorious 39 earnt £73K last week and is now being shown at 37 cinemas in the UK. It was the 13th highest grossing film that week. Updated 1/12

On Tuesday 27th October David Tennant attended the Glorious 39 premiere at the London Film Festival in Leicester Square plus a Q&A afterwards. He was asked why he took this role and he explained that it was partly because Stephen Polikoff directed it but also because they were prepared to fit in around his other projects. (He was still playing Hamlet in Stratford-Upon-Avon during part of the filming.) Glorious 39 will have its UK premiere at the London International Film Festival at 6pm on Tuesday 27th October (link). Updated 9/9
Glorious 39 will have its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival at 6pm on Monday 14th September (link). It will also be shown at the festival at 2.30pm on Wednesday 16th and at 4.30pm on Friday 18th September. Updated 30/8
The film is scheduled to run for 129 minutes and to have a 14A rating.

The film will be premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival that month. The TIFF is one of the top prestigious film festivals in the world. In 1998, Variety magazine posted "the Festival is second only to Cannes in terms of high-profile pics, stars and market activity". There is a lot of competition for a film to be screened at TIFF so this is an important achievement for the film.
Glorious 39 was to be released on 25th September in the UK but that has now been moved to 20th November.

David described his role as in the film as "In older days I’d call it a small part, but now I’m allowed to call it a cameo!" However David spent several days filming the part both while he was still playing Hamlet in Stratford and during the following week. The fact that other actors list him as one of the characters tends to indicate that he is making more than a cameo appearance!
