David Tennant played Macbeth as part of the 30th birthday celebrations of the London theatre the Donmar Warehouse. Cush Jumbo played Lady Macbeth.

The Donmar Warehouse is a 251 seat, not-for-profit theatre in Covent Garden, London. It is located at 41 Earlham Street, London WC2H 9LX.

The production of Macbeth was directed by Max Webster and ran for 10 weeks from Friday 8th December 2023 until Saturday 10th February 2024.

Tickets went on sale to the public from 9am on Tuesday 16th May and sold out in less than an hour.

Tickets were £69, £48 and £25. Preview prices (8th to 12th December) were £64, £43 and £25.

The performance times were:
Monday to Saturday evenings at 7.30pm
Tuesday 2nd January a matinee at 2.30pm
Thursday matinees (on 4th, 11th and 25th January, plus 8th February) at 2.30pm
Saturday matinees at 2.30pm
There were no performances between Sunday 24th December 2023 and Monday 1st January 2024.
Tickets were limited to 4 per person.

For Macbeth £15 standing tickets were released for purchase online from midday on the day of the performance.
Please note you were not be able to purchase standing tickets in person or over the phone.

The performance on Thursday 11th January was recorded although details about how or when it will be released have not been announced yet.

On The Zoe Ball Show on Friday 9th February 2024 David Tennant announced that Macbeth will transfer to another theatre in London in the autumn of this year. He gave no further details other than it had only just been agreed.

David previously took on the role of Macbeth in a BBC radio production which was broadcast in April 2022.

The quote from David about taking on the title role in Shakespeare's play is "The first Shakespeare I ever read was Macbeth. It's a play that has haunted me for as long as I can remember.
To be playing this part, in the unique and intimate Donmar Warehouse, directed by the brilliant Max Webster is daunting and humbling, but most of all... thrilling.
"

The Donmar's artistic director Michael Longhurst said he was "so excited to witness David Tennant's portrayal" of Macbeth.

David Tennant has been nominated for the Best Actor Award for Macbeth in the Olivier Awards.
The other nominees for that award are Joseph Fiennes for Dear England at the National Theatre, Mark Gatiss for The Motive And The Cue at the National Theatre, James Norton for A Little Life at the Harold Pinter Theatre and Andrew Scott for Vanya at the Duke of York's Theatre.
Macbeth has also been nominated for the Best Revival Award and the Best Sound Design Award.
The awards ceremony will take place on Sunday 14th April at the Royal Albert Hall. Updated 12/3
