David Tennant - Macbeth

David Tennant took on the role of Macbeth for BBC Radio Four.

The new radio production of Shakespeare's famous play was broadcast in two parts - on Saturday 23rd April 2022 at 3pm with the second part premiering at the same time the following day (Sunday 24th April).

David Tennant played the role of Macbeth while appearing as Lady Macbeth was BAFTA award winner Daniela Nardini. The cast also included Stuart McQuarrie as Banquo, Alec Newman as Macduff and Naana Agyei-Ampadu as Lady Macduff. Richard Wilson was also in the cast.

The first part of the production coincided with the date Shakespeare’s birthday is traditionally celebrated. The broadcast also preceded the 400th anniversary of the publication of Shakespeare's First Folio, which will be marked in 2023.

Radio Four commissioning editor for drama and fiction Alison Hindell, said "Macbeth is a part of great significance for any actor but particularly so for Scottish players. As David Tennant makes a welcome return to Radio Four audio drama we look forward to this performance with great anticipation." Macbeth was broadcast worldwide on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th April between 3pm and 4pm on Radio 4 and BBC Sounds. After broadcast we also added MP3s online too.

Both episodes of this play could be heard worldwide online on the BBC Radio Four website at the time of broadcast.
