David Tennant previously appeared on Top Gear in 2007.

Top Gear has famously gone through a big upheaval since David's last appearance. The programme originally started in 1977 but was relaunched in 2002 when it later became the most widely watched factual television programme in the world. It was famous for being hosted by the trio Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May. However Clarkson was suspended and then dismissed by the BBC in 2015 following allegations that he had verbally and physically abused a Top Gear producer in a hotel after filming. Shortly afterwards both May and Hammond announced they would not return to Top Gear without Clarkson so the trio went to Sky Television and appeared in a programme with a similar format.

On the BBC Top Gear returned with new hosts in 2016 including Chris Evans but now the three main hosts are Matt LeBlanc, Chris Harris and Rory Reid. The programme also features an anonymous test driver known as The Stig who has been played by numerous racing drivers over the course of the series.

It is not known yet or whether when the episode will be broadcast elsewhere in the world.
