David Tennant - The Highway Rat David Tennant has voiced the Highway Rat in a half hour animated special which will premiere on BBC One at 4.45pm on Christmas Day 2017 with a repeat on New Years Day 2018. The Highway Rat is based on the book of the same name by authors Julia Donaldson and and Axel Scheffler. It was published in 2011. The Highway Rat is about a ravenous rat who craves buns, biscuits and all sweet things. Tearing along the highway, he searches for sugary treats to steal, until his sweet tooth leads him to a sticky end. He calls out "Give me your pastries and puddings! Give me your chocolate and cake! For I am the Rat of the Highway, and whatever I want I take." The Highway Rat is described as 'A swashbuckling tale of bandits and biscuits the whole family will enjoy!' The voice cast for the special includes Rob Brydon as the narrator, Nina Sosanya as the Duck, Tom Hollander as the Squirrel and Frances de le Tour as the Rabbit.
