David Tennant played DI Alec Hardy in the Broadchurch original series which won a BAFTA in May 2014 and was ITV’s highest rated drama of 2013. The series finale was watched by over 10 million and consistently delivered in excess of 9 million viewers. It was broadcast starting on 4th March 2013 in the UK and on BBC America in the US from Wednesday 7th August. It has now been televised in Australia, France, Canada, Russia, Argentina, Sweden and Brazil.
In the original series, DI Alec Hardy was a gritty detective who investigated crimes which other policeman had been unable to solve. The drama explored what happens to a small community when it suddenly became the focus of a major event and was subjected to the full glare of the media spotlight. Olivia Colman, Vicky McClure, Andrew Buchan, David Bradley, Jodie Whittaker, Will Mellor and Arthur Darvill also starred in the eight episode one hour series which was written by Chris Chibnall. The series was produced by Richard Stokes for Kudos Productions.
Filming started on Broadchurch on Monday 13th August 2012 in Somerset, Dorset and the Clevedon area and finished in the early hours of Wednesday 5th December. The read-through for at least the first filming block was on Tuesday 7th August.
The DVD for the original series of Broadchurch was released in the UK on Monday 20th May 2013. The Broadchurch original series Blu-ray was released on 4th November 2013. |
